Madeline Weld, President
Madeline Weld, B.Sc, M.S., Ph.D, has been a member of PIC since its inception in 1992 and President since 1995. She works as a biologist at Health Canada. In addition to PIC, Madeline is a long-time member and former director of the Humanist Association of Canada, a member of the Canadian Association of the Club of Rome, and a former Director of Planned Parenthood Ottawa. She has long been concerned with population issues and is a frequent writer and speaker on the subject. (president@populationinstituteofcanada.ca)
Clifford Garrard, VP/Executive/Communications Director
Clifford Garrard, B.A., MSc., lived in Asia, Africa, Europe and the USA, as a student, overseas development volunteer and, for 32 years, a Foreign Service officer. His work has included environmental affairs, foreign aid, political-intelligence assessments and, in Northern Ireland, conflict resolution within the peace process. Past Director of Canada's Middle East Relations division, he also served in the UK as its representative on the Joint Intelligence Committee, Cabinet Office. (mail@populationinstituteofcanada.ca)
Ian Boyd, Director Research & Development
Ian Boyd, P. Eng., is a retired civil engineer, formerly employed by the City of Ottawa and the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton (R.M.O.C.). He was involved in the design and construction of roads and bridges, including the R.M.O.C. Transitway programme. For 10 years, he was the R.M.O.C. Chief Traffic Operational Studies Engineer, and has been a member of PIC since 1992. (mail@populationinstituteofcanada.ca)
Jon C. Legg, Director at Large
Jon Legg, B.Eng., a retired Canadian diplomat, is a graduate of two Canadian military colleges and McGill University in civil engineering. He completed military service in the Canadian Navy before returning to study political science and psychology. His thirty-one year career with the Department of Foreign Affairs took him on six different postings abroad, and to study and visit about 35 countries. Since retiring in 1996, he has served as president of a local community association as well as the unity group, "Dialogue Canada." He is a member of the Canadian Association for the Club of Rome and has served as its Chairman. (mail@populationinstituteofcanada.ca)
Dr. Whitman Wright, Director Emeritus
Whitman Wright, B.Sc., M.S., Ph.D is a retired professional structural engineer who, amongst other achievements, designed movable bridges for the St Lawrence Seaway Authority, reviewed the structural design of the Toronto Rogers Centre (then SkyDome) and for many years taught graduate civil engineering at Carleton University, Ottawa. He helped found Planned Parenthood Ottawa and served as its first President. In 1992, he founded the Population Institute of Canada (then the Ottawa Family Planning Project), serving as President until 1995. He has provided insight and leadership since then as a Director. In recognition of his key role in the creation and activities of PIC, Dr. Wright was awarded the title Director Emeritus in 2009.
